I recently read the online book “Digital Pirate” and the post was chalk full of ways to integrate Teach Like A Pirate in every day classrooms. The following blog post will share ways that I plan on integrating technology into my classroom. This will allow me to show how I am aware of technology that can be used educationally, which is part of the Danielson Framework evaluation. Technology is an excellent way to get students excited about learning by allowing them to interact with material in a non traditional way. The students will notice that my classroom is transformed from a lecture/lesson based classroom to an interactive, dynamic, and discussion based project room. I have a variety of tools I would like to use that I read about in the Digital Pirate. I chose the Camera App for use in my classroom. I will have students head out into the world to capture examples of what we are studying in class. We will come back as a class to discuss what we have found! This is a great way to incorporate the world and application into lessons. I would like to use is the backwards hook, which was fantastic for my presentation of dystopian novels. I would show my students virtual realities of utopian places and then have them trace the creation of these places. Additionally I would use the interior design hook: I would create a playlist that emerges students into the culture or time period we are studying and I would allow them respond to how the setting makes them feel. I would also use remind to give students something to look forward to when they come to my class. They would get hints at the lesson or recieve interesting pictures to get them excited. I will also be using Kahoot throughout the class to test for understanding and have students engage in review.
I will use Remind to send out texts that get students ready for class—similar to an anticipatory set.
